Hite Saunders Little League
Coach’s Responsibilities and Code of Conduct
Responsibilities of Coaches
· Field must be lined prior to each game and dragged after game by the home team coaches.
· Pitcher's mound and home plate area shall be tarped if rain is predicted within the next 24hrs.
· All trash shall be removed from the dugout after each game.
· A coach shall remain at the field until it is ensured that each player has a ride home.
· There shall be no alcohol permitted at either complex.
· There shall be no smoking on the field, in the dugout, or near the bleachers. The fields are on Board of Education property and they do not permit smoking on their property.
· You will be given a Little League Rules Book and shall be knowledgeable of all rules. You shall have your LL Rule Book at each of your games.
· Questions about calls should be handled by calling a time out. Once the time out is acknowledged by the umpire, you shall quietly discuss the call with the umpire. Others near and around the field should not be able to hear the conversation.
· A small disagreement shall be discussed with the umpire after the game. Major complaints, or if the umpire appeared to be unfair, biased, unfit, or incompetent, shall be reported to the league's Umpire-In-Chief.
· You shall remove any player from the game or practice when you are even slightly in doubt of his/her health, whether or not it is a result of an injury. You shall speak to the parent or seek medical advice, if available.
· Only coaches, umpire, those with handicap permits, and Board members shall be permitted to park at the baseball complex behind the school.
· You shall communicate effectively with all parents in regard to practices, games, schedule changes, and league events. We strongly encourage you to use the DICK’S Team Sports HQ App.
· You will be subject to a drug screen if deemed necessary, at any time. If you take prescription medication, you shall provide that prescription to the Safety Officer within 24 hours of your drug screen.
Coach's Code of Conduct:
· You shall put the emotional and physical well-being of players ahead of your personal desire to win.
· You shall promote fun and challenging practices for all players.
· You shall promote fun, fairness, and sportsmanship over winning.
· You shall emphasize and foster a team atmosphere.
· You shall encourage all players to treat teammates, coaches, umpires, and parents with respect.
· You shall lead by example in demonstrating fair play and sportsmanship.
· You shall act in a professional manner, without use of profanity, when dealing with other coaches, umpires, parents, and league officials, even if playing at another league.
Any infraction of the above shall result in a report made to the Hite Saunders Little League Board of Directors for consideration of further action, as appropriate.
First Offense - The Board will, at a minimum, provide a written warning of the infraction to the offender detailing the consequences of future infractions. Depending on the severity of the infraction, nothing precludes the Board from banning an offender from all Hite Saunders Little League activities, including, but not limited to, practices and games, for a period of time deemed appropriate by the Board.
Second Offense - The Board may institute a wide range of penalties for repeat offenders, as deemed appropriate by the Board. Such penalties may include:
· Suspension from all coaching activities for a period of time
· A ban from participating in all HSLL activities for a set period of time or number of games
· Severe violations can result in suspension from all HSLL activities for the remainder of the season/tournament
Third Offense - The Board may choose to apply any of the penalties as outlined for a second offense. In the most extreme of circumstances, the Board may hold a meeting to determine whether or not the individual should be permanently banned from all future league activities. The individual in question will be invited to speak at said meeting.
Any coach who has been banned or suspended from league activities, may petition the Board, in writing, for a review of the penalty. The petition shall be delivered to the league president, and the Board shall meet within a reasonable amount of time to consider the petition. All parties shall have the opportunity to speak at the meeting.
*Any activity or action that could be considered criminal in manner will be reported to local law enforcement for their investigation.
